Description:
Established in 1983 to develop and present local, national and international performance, greenroom is situated in two converted Victorian railway arches beneath Oxford Road railway station. Facilities include a fully resourced black-box style theatre seating up to 200, a studio style rehearsal room, exhibition facilities, a cafe/bar and offices. greenroom is Manchester’s centre for new extraordinary performance: we support artists by providing resources and a safe space for the creation of new, experimental and contemporary performance. We present new work created at greenroom, and other new performance (including national and international work), to audiences in appropriate contexts. We also carry out small participation projects with the wider community, including children and young people, many who face disadvantage or exclusion. We encourage participants to be creative, and provide expertise, space and resources for discovery learning and expression.Location: 54-56 Whitworth Street West M1 5WW

Contributors to Red, a timely and astonishingly comprehensive anthology of contemporary Black British poetry published by Peepal Tree Press, perform their passionate and fiery verse. Peter Kalu is well known on the local and national writing scene as a poet, novelist, editor, activist and playwright. Trinidad-born John Lyons is the author of three collections of poetry and Cook up in a Trini Kitchen, combining poems, recipes, and artwork. Guyana-born Grace Nichols has published several collections including I is a Long Memoried Woman, which won the Commonwealth Poetry Prize, The Fat Black Woman’s Poems, and most recently I Have Crossed an Ocean: Selected Poems. Acclaimed poet and live artist, Seni Seneviratne’s collection Wild Cinnamon and Winter Skin has been described as ‘a virtual master class between covers’.
