MLF and Manchester City Library are delighted to present the acclaimed literary biographer, Lyndall Gordon, who will be discussing her latest book, Lives Like Loaded Guns: Emily Dickinson and Her Family's Feuds. One of America's best-loved poets, Emily Dickinson published only ten poems during her lifetime, but 1,800 were discovered after her death, many of them hidden in a locked chest. She has often been portrayed as an odd and pathetic woman, disappointed in love, but Lyndall’s new book recasts her as a mystic and lover whose family harboured a hothouse drama of sex, scandal and devastating betrayal. Find out more about the fascinating life of this woman beyond her own time.
